What drew me to HERAN is their mission. I have seen both academic research and life inside an AI-powered HealthTech company, so I know how decisive early-stage capital and long-term guidance can be to turn a strong idea into concrete benefits for patients.

Spotting the starters that can make a difference

A large part of Flore’s role will be working through HERAN’s deal flow: separating proposals that fit the fund’s investment focus from those that don’t, and digging deeper into those that do. Studying the market, validating the strategy, and assessing a company's growth potential. It also means engaging directly with founders to understand the technology and the people behind it. 

Technology matters, but it is not the only thing that decides whether a company succeeds. An innovation can look good on paper, but the market has to be ready, clinicians have to want to use it, and the solution has to make their work significantly easier. That human side is something I never want to lose sight of.

Connecting it, interpreting it, and turning it into insights clinicians can actually use on a daily basis – without overwhelming them – is, in Flore’s opinion, one of the most important current opportunities in the sector.

Tackling healthcare’s biggest challenges

Today’s healthcare system is under pressure on several fronts. An ageing population and a rising burden of chronic diseases are pushing the demand for healthcare services up, while staff shortages are pulling capacity down. Some of these problems can be solved by using data more effectively and efficiently. This data already exists, but it is scattered, and a great deal of clinical insight is lost along the way. These are some of the structural problems HERAN’s portfolio is built to address, and they are exactly where Flore wants to contribute.

Every patient generates information that could help the next one. Whether or not a treatment was successful should be available the next time another clinician faces the same decision. Today, too much of it disappears. Connecting that data and turning it into something useful without overwhelming the clinician is one of the biggest opportunities the sector has today.
